With Powernapp, we have developed a minimalist power nap app specifically for Wear OS smartwatches.
The desired sleep duration can be selected directly on the watch and adjusted individually. After starting, the app first waits for a calmer phase before the actual timer begins. Powernapp then wakes the user at the right time using vibration.
The interface was deliberately reduced to short interaction paths, clear information and as few distractions as possible. Powernapp can be tested free of charge and then unlocked with a one-time purchase – without a subscription.
Our second Wear OS project is considerably less relaxing.
BOOMnana is a small turn-based artillery game for smartwatches. Two monkeys compete against each other, throwing explosive bananas across a destructible landscape.
The angle is adjusted using the watch crown, while the throwing power is charged by touch. Wind direction and wind strength ensure that, despite the simple controls, no two throws are quite the same.
The particular challenge was fitting a complete game with physics, animations, different themes and smartwatch-friendly controls onto a very small display.
BOOMnana is currently in the final stages of preparation for its release on Google Play.
During development, it quickly became clear that our app projects needed a platform of their own. This led to the creation of play.48design.com.
There, we provide information about our current Android and Wear OS apps, their features and their respective release status. Alongside Powernapp and BOOMnana, the platform also features our smartphone game Funny Fold Game.
App development complements our existing range of services and combines many disciplines that have been part of our work for years: design, user experience, programming, animation, 3D and technical conception.
Our core areas of web design, development, 3D visualization and digital media naturally remain unchanged. The website play.48design.com simply creates a dedicated space for projects in which technology, design and playful ideas come together particularly closely.
With the new platform, we are also reconnecting with the early beginnings of 48DESIGN – not as a change of direction, but as an additional creative facet.
